RUBRIC

Welcome to out first post!

As you can see in our about us section we are a group of students of the Master's Degree in Secondary Education Teaching and we have created this blog to give you some tips and information about the teacher's profession.

This post is addresed to teachers who want to create a rubric for evaluating an English writing.

Have you ever created a rubric? In the following image there is an example of our first rubric. It was created during our Master's degree and we compared it to other rubrics that we had been provided with and we have to say we are proud of it.

When creating a rubric it is important to take into account different issues such as the content, the communicative achievement, the organisation and the language.

As it can be seen in the following photograph, the content includes genre structure and register.
The communicative achievement includes the communicative purpose, catching the reader's attention and the relevance of the writing. The organisation includes the use of linking words and the coherence and cohesion. Finally, the language includes the word choice, spelling errors, punctuation, grammar control, overuse and errors and slips.

It is important to add that we implemented this rubric since we corrected two different writings and we also took into account different issues such as the use of complex grammar structures. We realised that one of the writings was perfectly written but it the grammar was too simple to achieve a B2 level in the CEFR while the other one had some errors but it had a huge amount of complex grammar which gave it a higher level.

Here are some photos of us while we were creating this fantasitc rubric:
